Bossy’s Excellent Road Trip. 2008.
When Bossy began this blog back in 1966 she knew it would garner rave reviews and facilitate one entire haircut last year, but she never knew she would become a devotee of an enormous blog family. A family who supports one another in times of Emergencies. A family who celebrates each other’s triumphs. A family who throws whiskey bottles at each other’s windshields after Aunt Ida’s wedding. A family.
Bossy met many of you last year, and it was magic—wine-soaked magic. But it wasn’t enough. Because Bossy has a hankering to visit her bloggy family in their Natural Habitats. We’re talking a road trip: Bossy’s Excellent Road Trip of the continental United States. Spring/summer ‘08.
Here’s how it works: if you want to be a stop on the road trip, email Bossy. In that email be sure to provide your name and blog name if you have one—along with your address. You may also want to mention if you have a sofa for Bossy to crash on, or if you’re just interested in meeting for a quick bowling match
In return Bossy will plant your name on her Road Trip link farm and email you a friendly little badge to stick on your blog.
You will also receive access to the Excellent Road Trip map so you can track other bloggy stops demarked by push pin technology:
Participation and money money money other logistics will determine Bossy’s route—obviously she can’t drive through every town. The goal is to select centralized locations.
You may wonder how Bossy is going to fund her adventure. So does Bossy’s husband. That’s why they invented the Excellent Road Trip Donation Jar, and when Bossy says “they” she means herself:

5. And culture. You will not be able to choose among the fabulous culture here (and I so serious).
6. And music. Music here is HOT, like cool hot not like hot with heat.
7. Friendly. You want friends and family? Come to Houston. You’ll leave with a passel. And maybe a tattoo.
8. Space. You can have the space experience without even leaving the earth. Just tour the NASA museum.
9. Speaking of museums. Science. Kids. Art.
10. Did I mention the oil soaked beaches?

Holy cow, Bossy!! I don’t have a blog and I’m in a small hellhole of a town in TX…although I do have a comfy couch.
BUT!! I can tell you one stop you won’t want to miss and that’s one listed already for heartshapedhedges. I personally have been there and besides being in paradise along the South Orange County Coastline, you can also observe upclose the infamous “crapmobile”….yep, that’s what it’s called.
Besides that she has more bathrooms than the Nixon Library…not that you will be visiting that landmark.
Oh, and I hope you don’t forget to bring Stella on your roadtrip….

I think I would be too nervous and have to go on pills if someone as awesome as Bossy was in my house. I’ll have to be content with blog-life as usual. But I’ll spot Bossy some gas money.
What, the college tour road trip wasn’t enough torture for you?
We drink a lot. We eat a lot. And we embrace chaos. I’ll email you with the geographical deets.
Bossy – all I can say is Vegas baby! And we have culture – no place else has as many crap tables in assorted colors, and slot machines that make pretty noises and flashing pictures as they eat your money.
But the driving, if you do come to Vegas you better learn to drive that fast. Except our roads are straight, without all that confusing green stuff on the sides. And the traffic lights? Looking at them is optional (according to the way most people drive)
You are the coolest. Another small town (Illinois) girl who probably wouldn’t make the cut, but I can’t wait to read all about your terrific travels! Now I have even more reason to look forward to this spring/summer!
If you hit Houston, grab Julie and visit ExpectingExecutive in Galveston. I know where there are a few not oil soaked beaches! I have a gas card I got for Christmas that I could re-gift to you. 8 – )

I am quite convinced that by keeping to the Continental US only you are damaging US/Canada relations. Why do we get no Bossy? If you do sojourn over the border, I’ll not only put cash in your tip jar, I’ll see to it that you have a bed of your own, the heat turned up on the pool and some deadly ice wines. We go hard up here… maybe Bossy is worried she can’t keep up. Otherwise, may I suggest a BossyStock? All of Bossy’s readers could meet up in the small town of Bossy’s choosing and have a giant parlour game-bowling championship. I’m all in.
Ok I emailed you but I want to say come to the real Texas. Working cowboys in chaps on horses,oil wells,cotton fields,great barbecue and TexMex food,ranch rodeos, insanely entertaining accents to listen to, great music,beautiful bluebonnets if you get here before the middle of June. If you come in late June/July/August it is insanely hot but it is a dry heat in north Texas not like muggy Houston, Austin, San Antonio or even Dallas. Where I live would be a nice stop between say Dallas and Albuquerque.
Ohhh, team Brando/TLB would love love love to have you, but we are most decidedly NOT in a centralized location. Still, if you find yourself in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, we have an excellent well-stocked Queen guest room that is all yours as long as you want it.

If you drive straight ahead towards the West side of the US, up to the end where the westest of the US west stops, and continue on driving through the ocean…I’ll be waiting here in bright, sunny Australia. Then I can drag you to eat kangaroo meat, wrestle koala and maybe race the Tasmanian devil.

I’ve read through all of Bossy’s comments to date and it is obvious that you will have far better places to visit than here. But, if for some strange reason you happen to drive through on your way to southern CA, you are so welcome to stay here! Let me tempt you…
We live on an air force base, surrounded by cotton fields in a small town in southwest OK. You would have your own room in our tiny base house. You would be awakened before light by large cargo planes as they take off for the day’s training, and then again at 7am when they blast reveille from the loud-speakers.
If you come at the right time, we could enjoy the heat, the wind, the fine red dust, the crickets, and the spiders that make the summers here such a joy. It’s all easier to deal with though, if you have one (or more) of my AWESOME margaritas and some of my AMAZING guacamole. Then we could go bowling for CHEAP at the alley on base. If we go on a Wednesday night there will be music. And a light show. (God, now I’m depressed. Take me with you?)

So Bossy, I already e-mailed you about the FIVE fabulous bars within TWO blocks of my house. But those were just the full-fledged-stand-alone bars. I left out all the restaurants with bars like the French place across the street that has an outdoor deck WITH A BAR and plays jazz and blues a LOT. So when you’re tired and broke from driving ALL THE WAY to Florida, you can hang out on my spacious front porch, drink cheap wine by the bottle and feed your soul with some sweet, sweet music.
And despite all the boozy goodness nearby, my neighborhood is surprisingly wholesome. In case you were wondering.

I can’t contribute to the tip jar right now, but I have a suggestion. What if everyone you come to visit agrees to fill your tank before you leave them? If they don’t, you’ll stay indefinitely, eating their food and using their washer and dryer. I’d fill your tank before you left. And you know that everyone’s going to feed you. Shoot, most of us will put you on the road with sandwiches and snacks. How expensive could this be?

COME VISIT US!” I have a guest bedroom that is entirely too pink but it has a queen size bed. If you stay with us, and you bunk in “pink room” you might find yourself in bed with another man — one that’s 5 and likes to kick/talk in his sleep. Oh wait. That’s not very tempting is it?
Ok well, you still can have the room but did I mention WE HAVE LOTS OF LIQUOR AT OUR HOUSE. VDog belongs to a wine club. Wine takes up residence at Casa de Cracker.
VDog ACTUALLY lives an hour from SF, if you are driving 5 miles an hour in traffic, unlike No_Watch_Me Christine, who only lives an hour from SF if you are driving 90 miles an hour and there is no traffic.
(Actual Berkeley – SF driving time? Usually ~ 30 minutes. But there’s always BART!)
VDog is an awesome cook.

Bossy, not only do I have a couch — (four of them IN FACT) but I also have FOUR, count them, FOUR outrageously funny boys. You can have the third floor all to yourself… and here’s the thing. I am living in STEPFORD!! I kid you not — Stepford Bliss. Of course, I did not undergo the surgery, so my brain is still intact…which makes it so much more fun to watch those women in stilettos walk their kids to school, with a Starbuck’s in one hand… you just have to see this for yourself.
