Bossy’s Holiday Giveaway.
Bossy will begin by saying she is not a fervent believer in video games. Bossy’s speed is tattered Monopoly boards dotted with Chex cereal because the red Hotels have been missing since the year you stopped liking Andy Gibb.
In fact, Bossy has always been one of those moms who didn’t allow electronic toys in the house because oy the noise, she would kill herself
she wanted to foster imagination.
Bossy’s son often begged for video game systems growing up, but Bossy reasoned he could play those things at someone else’s house.
But now Bossy’s son is away at college and the rest of the family can have fun! Enter Xbox 360.
Xbox 360 is more than a gaming system, because the console provides online access and Bossy doesn’t really understand what she’s saying but anyway, you can compete with other Xbox people everywhere! This feature is called Xbox LIVE, and you can even hook up a camera so you can see the people you’re playing with and they can see you and they can see your family room and they can see the couch in your family room, the couch with the muddy dog prints and maybe never mind about the Great Camera?
And Xbox 360 has a relationship with Netflix and Universal Studios Entertainment, so you can stream their free TV shows and movies for,
that would be, free! Because did you know Bossy is incapable of watching TV or movies on her computer screen because it feels so wrong. Next thing you know they’ll invent a phone for your car. Oh, wait.
But the best thing about Xbox 360 — and the thing Bossy finds most compelling when it comes to gaming families — is their Parental Controls. The makers of Xbox have teamed with the Parent Teacher Association to develop a gaming PACT, which encourages parents to provide strict perimeters surrounding issues such as access, content, and amount of time spent playing these games.
The Xbox 360 system allows you to set up an individual profile for each person in the household — each with their own unique Family Settings, both for gaming and for Xbox LIVE interplay. So for instance, you can peruse game ratings and decide which are acceptable.
And then of course there is the very best feature ever: you can set time limits for your children, which the gaming system monitors so you don’t have to. This means that Xbox provides the warnings that their time has nearly expired so you’re not the bad guy, where bad guy equals one very frizzy woman.
In honor of Bossy’s awesome readers, Xbox 360 is going to give away one Xbox console, complete with two games: Kung Fu Panda and Indiana Jones to one lucky person!

Well, I talked myself (and my wife) out of buying Nintendo’s Wii for Christmas … because I knew we’d all become addicted to it (read: I would become addicted to it and my life would become unmanageable) … but, hey, if we randomly win a game system, well, that’s another altogether. That would mean the universe *wants* us to have a game system in our house.
That last photo is HI-llarious! My husband would REALLY like one of these. I think my kids might enjoy it also.

I haven’t broken down yet and bought a game system of any flavor. Always seemed like an expensive way to sit around and twiddle your thumbs.This looks like fun, though. And I like the timer that cuts off the happy little gamers before they are completely brain-dead. Just got one of those for the computer. My house is so peaceful now, it’s eerie!

Although, its not for imagination or noise, its because I see divorce in my future as every time I go looking for my hubs, I am pretty sure that’s where he’ll be. We’ve never owned any kind of gaming system either..and I like to think that’s why my kids are active in real life sports and always show up on the Honor roll. However, the fact this thing is compatible with Netflix has piqued my interest…so here I am, throwing my hat in.

Wow you’ve managed to keep video games out of your house that long? My oldest who is now 21 has grown up with a controller in his hand. Who knew when I bought the first NES system back when he was two he would end up kicking both mine and his Father’s ass? Yes at the age of TWO. I’m still lame and can’t play. Oh well.

I think the best part is the gaming timer so Mom’s not the bad guy! I set limits on gaming time, but i get distracted and lose track of time when I’m reading blogs… I mean, giving my children quality time.

Like Bossy, I have a teenage son. A senior this year, he spends half his life begging his mother (that would be me) for an Xbox360. You see, he has the original XBox that he loves dearly, but they no longer make games for it so he has none of the new games like his friends have. My son would KILL for this XBox360. He’d kill me, probably. With joy. Because he’s such a serious video game freak that it scares me. His thumbs are very very strong.

My mom never let us play video games either, though we did have an old school Atari (Space Invaders!) for about two weeks, until it broke. While we definitely went over to friends’ houses and pledged our love to Super Mario Bros. in secret, I’m still so thankful we never had our own.

My daughter and her friends played Rock Band for 10 hours straight at her sweet sixteen party in October. We hooked the system up to the overhead projector and video screen in the conference room of the museum where I work. Awesome!

Oh, pretty please! I so want to win this one for my almost 17 year old son. My DH has been out of work so money has been tight. I went to Best Buy the day after Thanksgiving at 2:30 a.m., stood in line with money I had saved for like ever, so he could get one. I got one, purchased it, and my DS said he really needed a new coat (cuz, like he’s 17 and has arms like a gorilla). I told him I couldn’t afford an XBOX and a coat, and he said I need a coat more than I need an XBOX! Can you believe that? So, I went back to Best Buy about 4 p.m. the day after Thanksgiving and returned the XBOX so he could have the coat he wanted.
If I could win this, it would just be amazing. I know it will be random, but I pray the random God’s call my number. That would be awesome!

silly people, I use to have a teenage son, until the xbox360 entered our home…he barely comes up for dinner, he’d be late for basketball practice and would never be at family gatherings if I didn’t scream at him about getting off that #*&@! game. The deal is, you can’t just quit in the middle of a game because you lose rating points (or something like that)…at least that’s what he tell us. Have fun!!

We held out against video games for a long time, too, thinking they rot the brain. Instead, I snuck games in at the local arcade and neglected to tell the kids about them… It took a college course on emergent forms of literacy to open my mind to the possibilities for brain-building offered us by well-made video games – we used James Gee’s What Video Games Have to Teach Us About Learning and Literacy, and attempted to apply his principles to actual game play one class session. I enjoyed PacMan 2 on the GameCube, but I didn’t find it as well-made as Animal Crossing. I would love to branch out into other gaming systems – like xbox – to see all of the great games they offer, too. I swear, being a one-system household is like having access to only a few books in the library: it’d be great to read some new “books”!
Bossy has changed my views on video games. Anything that can get the whole family playing together gets my vote! Go Bossy! A-ha has nothing on you!

My 17 year old son has waited for years for an Xbox! My dh is out of work, so it’s not in the cards this year. He said he needed a coat more than an Xbox, so that is what I bought for him. It would be amazing to get this Xbox for a very patient, understanding young man who knows that we try.
We’re deciding if we should bite the bullet and buy a gaming system for our household. Our seven year old daughter thinks we should. For sure.

My son really wants one of these. And I’m not getting him one. We got a Wii last year. But an X Box would be a good surprise anyways. My daughter could play her games on the Wii and my son could play x box.

I would never even take it out of the box. I would use it to launch my own Xbox-360 giveaway, only in this one my children would have to compete for the slimmest possible hope of ever getting to use it.
