MWF with gluten fetish seeks slim, attractive toaster to warm the insides. Of her muffin. Length not important, but thickness a plus. No half-baked applicants please. Must be looking for long-term commitment.
Bossy’s beloved toaster conked out and she still hasn’t purchased a replacement because she’s afraid of buying the wrong one.
Toaster Oven? Regular? Help?
Can’t you just use your radiators or something?

Toaster ovens are overrated and lacking grace. On the other hand, toasters lack the ability to make toaster oven pizza bagels.
Poverty party probably rules out both, huh? Thrift store?
When we re-did our kitchen several years ago we lived via a Delonghi digitial toaster oven. That thing saved my life. Worth every penny (and far cheaper than a kitchen remodel)
Regular toaster. Bossy should step away from the toaster oven question. Or maybe that’s just because I usually set fire to something when attempting to use one.
My favorite toaster? A big hunk of shiny metal old-school toaster (complete with cloth covered plug cord – if ya know what I mean) from the thrift shop, which I bought in college. When it finally conked out about 6 years ago, and after I finished sobbing heavily, my MIL bought us a Black & Decker VersaToast wide slot with FOUR toast slots (hello – family of 7!!) and it is AWESOME – almost made me forget how much I loved that little antique that used to burn my bread.
OH…. and definitely go with the toaster. We have both, and I think I end up using that toaster oven about twice a year to warm up leftovers (no microwave) or make an open face sandwich for my lunch.
I haven’t a clue about toasters.. hence why I totally passed on the toaster my mom really wants over to my aunt so she can give it to her for the holidays.

In general, toasters use a little less energy than toaster ovens, and toaster ovens use about half as much energy as a full-size electric oven. (A microwave conserves even more, though. It uses about two-thirds less energy than a conventional electric oven.) A convection fan can reduce the energy use of a toaster oven by cooking the food 20% to 30% faster.
I use my toaster oven for EVERYTHING – it toasts bread, bagels and pop tarts like a mother f… and roasts vegetables in half the time of my gas oven… The DeLonghi Oven is hands down worth it – I’ve had mine for 10 years now.
I would go with a regular toaster if the primary use is going to be to toast things. The toaster ovens I’ve had haven’t toasted well.
Toasters aren’t made to last IMHO. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on it. Go with a name you recognize and that is priced under $30 (Oster, Black & Decker, etc.). My expensive toaster has lasted longer than the expensive one I used to have.
I vote thrift store. You may find something retro along the lines of your old toaster. And, um… Bossy, from this post, I think you need more help than what a new toaster can give you….

Thank the heavens I didn’t get the gay shopping gene. I don’t agonize over these things for a minute. I go to Kmart, find the cheapest thing that has everything I want, buy it and go home. It took me 20 minutes to buy my Black & Decker toaster oven. Yes, Black & Decker.
A. I’m kind of turned on now. B. Get a regular toaster – you can brown sandwiches and the like as easily in an oven as you can a toaster oven. And toaster ovens make ROTTEN toast.
For sure the regular toaster. The toaster oven hogs counter space and takes 3 1/2 hours to toast anything.

I love my toaster oven for the fact that I can cook homemade pot pies and other things during the summer and not have to turn the oven on and heat up the entire house in the process. You just have to get one deep enough to fit that Tony’s pizza inside.
Toaster for toast. Toaster oven for everything else. Doesn’t take as long to heat up as the regular oven. And in a bind you can toast in the toaster and the toaster oven.
Muffins sound yummy. My son is home sick with a sore throat. Maybe a trip to the store for some juice and muffins.
What about a toaster/toaster oven combo? That way you get your delicious toast and can reheat pizza!

Awww, Bossy..I thought you were in poverty! Just do as the coastal nest does and broil said slices in the oven. Half the timeas a toaster, only you have to turn it over. Dont reach in to do it though, a few minor flesh burns have turned up on the old wrist.
i got a Haier toaster oven for free when i registered at macy’s for all of our wedding stuff, and my husband thought it was the dumbest idea he had ever heard of. now he uses it every day to make hot sandwiches, reheat pizza without wasting energy using the regular oven, etc. and i used it to make pumpkin bread on thanksgiving when the loaf pan wouldn’t fit in the oven with the turkey. it takes up more space, but it’s pretty multifunctional, so why not?

Got a thought…why not go to Buy.com & search for “toaster.” (Both toaster ovens & toasters will come up.) Now check out all the “free shipping” ones..and narrow it down into a list. Then see what BH & Bossy’s mom think of the selection. Best part? You can stay in on this rainy day and not spend gas $ or shipping $. I did this years ago & got a DeLonghii 2 slice toaster & we love it.

I absolutely LURVE my toaster oven because I can toast not only bagels and bread, but I can COOK and BAKE small-ish things, as well (like personal pizzas, or reheating leftovers) without having to use the gigantic oven (which takes longer, uses more energy). The toaster oven never has to preheat. We have a Black & Decker and like it!
I made brownies in an 8 x 8 pan in my toaster oven last night – that’s how awesome it is!

I said it before and I’ll say it again -Breville Toaster- best toaster I ever bought – wait, I’ve always had hand-me-downs. So yea, it’s the best toaster I’ve ever bought! Stainless, wide slots, cute blue led dial, and the sweetest ping when done.

The toaster oven is the way to go. While standard toaster ovens are a little more expensive than standard toasters, they are total multi-taskers. And I am completely satisfied with the toast my toaster oven produces. Also, I was reading something the other day that said toaster ovens are much more energy efficient than using the regular oven.
There are also the superfancy convection toaster ovens that are probably even better than a regular toaster oven. But I’m cheap and purchased the one on clearance at the Hellmarts two years ago.
And seriously, Bossy? Get some protein and put it between some carbs before you LOSE YOUR MARBLES.
Reviews of cheap Proctor Silex toasters on Amazon suggest them to be the best choice. Two years ago I bought a Sunbeam that looks very much like your late beloved – my family owned that same model when I was growing up – with the hope of recapturing the perfect toast of my youth. While we are on speaking terms, the toast it produces often isn’t what I hoped it would be. A toaster oven would command too much of your space. Find a cheap toaster and try to be brave.
I think we’ve done the route of David: go to a cheap store and buy one that does what you need. By “one” I mean “one toaster” because toasting toast in an oven seems way too complication.
On the other hand, if you have a gas stove you CAN toast toast over the flames and that’s pretty good. That’s the kind of toast I grew up on. Not sure about bagels and pop tarts, though.
I prefer to use my panini maker instead. It’s smaller and could be hidden away to keep my counters uncluttered.

Toaster oven! It does more. Toasts, bakes, and reheats. All in one. I’ve had my Black and Decker from Target for 10 years now.
I say: toaster ovens, BAH. I have one but it’s up in my cabinet being ignored.
I LOVE my toaster – it’s a Philips from Target (?? cost – it was a wedding gift). It’s extra long so you can fit in either sourdough/french bread OR 4 slices of regular bread. It’s got buttons you can push for if you’re toasting a bagel or if the item is frozen. No kidding, it toasts EVERYTHING perfectly, EVERY TIME. If I came home to find thieves ransacking my house, I’d tell them they could take whatever they wanted, as long as they left the toaster.
We gave up on our toaster oven the second or third time it caught on fire. Or something. Memories are vague; I just hold on to the takeaway concept: don’t get another.
I bought a Michael Graves-designed toaster from Target. I like its bulbous amusing shape. Husband jammed sliced baguettes into it last night, causing much smoke, almost setting off very sensitive smoke alarm which then sets off the dogs for the entire evening. So I made him run the entire toaster with still-smoking baguette slices out onto the deck. Maybe it’s us, not the appliances.

I’m a big fan of the toaster oven. But you really have to find the best one for you. I’m not overly fond of the one I have now, but the one I really liked died and they’d stopped making it.
I had to type this at work so the dumb thing wouldn’t find out and make my life absolute heck.
We always go with the toaster oven; much more versatile.

Since you blogged about this again, I have the opportunity to curb my regret at not commenting the first time.
I loved my pop up toaster for years. Got the bagel version when we got married and loved that too. Always mistrusted toaster ovens which seemed to be an excuse for a small fire in your kitchen on a regular basis.
Then I bought the Cuisinart Classic Toaster Oven Broiler. It is the only broiler in my house and I adore it beyond all reason. It broils asparagus for me, reheats dinners and pizza perfectly, and, most important, does the best toast-from-a-toaster-oven I’ve ever seen–including bagels. I’m a convert. Good luck.

Toaster ovens take a lot of electricity (wattage or some b.s. I forget) but are more versatile than toasters. While a regular toaster — you can still force into versatility especially as creative as you seem to be.
My advice, buy the toaster with the biggest slots and you can cram anything you want inside.

You know what? I hate my toaster oven. We got it for a wedding present and it never cooks the whole way thru. I gave away our toaser because I didn’t want 2 appliances that did the same job. I miss our toaster. Can’t wait to see what you decide!

Personally? We have one of those funky antique ones that our great grandparents used. You know the kind. the sides flip down for the bread, and you get to scrape the black off cause no one is ever fast enough to flip it?

Definitely toaster oven. Otherwise how are you going to make English muffin pizzas, or bruschetta, or any other number of things that either won’t fit into toaster slots, or may cause an electrical fire (like chopped up tomatoes, mozzarella, etc. etc.)

I’m a recovering toaster-oven-er. Now I just use a regular toaster (which I can put away!) and just broil anything I want toasted.

Standard toast-er-oven, Black and Decker variety, if you please. I even bake cookies (only 6 at a time) in mine. (Also lasagna, pot-pies, and toast!) Nice not to heat up the whole kitchen some days. My beloved corn-bread baking cast-iron skillet won’t fit, though.
Whatever you decide – Craigslist. I got a positively wonderful Kitchen Aid stand mixer, used 2x, in the box, for $100.
You could get a smokin’ deal on a toaster there.
Don’t get the Black and Decker Toast-R-Oven. Takes forfreakinever to toast anything. Maybe all the new ones do. Shouldn’t have thrown my old one away just because it was filthy.
