Bossy’s Excellent Melancholy.
This is Bossy and she is currently in Seattle touching the farthest edge of her Excellent Road Trip. Beginning tomorrow Bossy will be moving back across the middle of the country toward home.
Bossy has been in Seattle for two days, and here’s a little known fact about Seattle: it rains a lot. But it doesn’t just rain, it’s drizzly rainy pouring sunny drizzly sunny raining sunny pouring. Bossy has never worked her sunglasses so hard, scraping them off and on her face as the weather swings wildly between beautiful and lufitueab.
In other news: Seattle is totally cute:
Last night Bossy had dinner with her Seattle posse at a place called The Pink Door. For the life of Bossy she couldn’t figure out the origins of the restaurant’s name:
The gathering was very dynamic. She was there and she was there. She was there and she was there and she was there too. Also she was there and she was there and she was there, and one last she. It was a she love fest. Plus one random Greek man makes he:
On the way home, Bossy had the opportunity to walk past the Mother Ship:
After a great coma sleep, Bossy and her sister host went to Pike’s Place Farmer’s Market, where Bossy married the fish monger who called her honey and fed her crabmeat:
Bossy and her sister host had a great time walking around the market scarfing samples and sampling scarves:
And then Bossy said goodbye to her sister host and felt a flood of sadness that’s hard to pinpoint. Mostly Bossy can’t believe the generosity shown by everyone she’s met, and she can’t believe her luck.
When Bossy called home this afternoon to discuss these friendships forged and the abundance of kindness, suddenly she was shedding giant tears while gurgling uncontrollably until Bossy’s husband actually thought he was the victim of bad cell phone reception.
So. Bossy wants to thank you D.C. and Richmond and Atlanta and Orlando and Tallahassee and Baton Rouge and Dallas and Oklahoma and Scottsdale and San Diego and Laguna Beach and L.A. and San Francisco and Portland and Seattle for making the first half of this Excellent Road Trip so very dear.
Tomorrow: Boise Idaho. Now pass the tissues.
I believe Bossy is on her way to Boise/near Boise next? Is there ANYONE who can help me find out the meeting place? I’d like to meet with Ms. Bossy and cannot find ANY info. Please help!

I’m doing some snuffling and gurgling of my own, but it’s because I didn’t get to meet Miss Bossy.

Is that tears or snot on the windshield there? Whatev – wipe it off so you can see. Now that you’re on the downhill side we don’t want you wiping out in the middle of Idaho somewhere because you didn’t see a great big potato in the road.

Awwwwwwwww, you know just when I feel sorta down…and annoyed with the bickering (although cute & I do sorta like them even though they keep getting older)kids and husband on a vacation , um, wait, I guess it’s called a “business trip” (who I also sorta like but feel jealous because he has a real job…with a business account and “trips”) I read your blog. And know what? It cheers me up! And today it choked me up. You’re homesick. It’s okay. You’re half-way home and only halfway through meeting people who will show you the kindness and love you deserve. Godspeed Bossy! Keep on keepin’ on!

Sigh. I’m so happy I get to live vicariously through your blog. I have family in Seattle (20 years now) and I’ve never been to see them there. Ever. You just summed up the trip for me and now I can wait until Sept to see them again!
Oh Bossy be careful!!! Between the tears and the windshield you’re asking for trouble! I am sure your heart is filled to overflowing by the generosity and joy from those you’ve met on the trip… congratulations! You were well cared for and appreciated…. Already half-way over? Amazing! and you’ve gone so far away from home too. So homesick and happiness all at once; no wonder there are tears!
On the other hand, Bossy’s hair looks great — it seems to love the raindrizzlefogpouringrain.
I LOVE the Pink Door! It’s right across the alley from Kell’s – an awesome Irish pub with yummy Guinness on tap and pasties on the menu.

Hope you enjoyed Seattle! I miss my birthplace and wish I could have been there to meet you. Unfortunately, I’m stuck in Moses Lake, which you will probably drive through on your way to Boise, but won’t know you’ve driven through it.

If you are making your way through Idaho via roads hugging the Salmon River, you are in for a treat. When we moved to D.C. from the Seattle area two summers ago and made the cross-country drive from hell, that leg was by far the most beautiful. Have your camera ready!

Dear Bossy!
I just finished 20 tax returns in 1 day and to celebrate, I drank 2 Bellini’s. I totally enjoyed them. I also happen to think I deserved them. I live in Boise, which I used to hate, but after living ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, I now think is pretty great.
Due to the fact that it was TAX SEASON and all I could see was stupid numbers, I didn’t know you were coming to Boise. SOMEHOW or another, it now comes to my attention (however drunkenly) that you are coming to BOISE!
I think you are lovely, and have now emailed 2 Boise people, who probably think I am a lush, trying to determine if there is in fact a meeting place here in Boise where I can come and enjoy the mere whiff of your perfume(new car smell). Hell, my fiancee even said he’d babysit! How many opportunities like this am I going to get?
Your Richmond stop soooo appreciates you… we are glad you are having a good trip…. and your son is a hoot…. i see where he got it… (and his good looks…hmmmh) hehehehe

The blue of the Pacific Ocean brings out Bossy’s eyes in a most attractive way. Not to take anything away from anyone else, but I think meeting Mrs. G would be a total highlight.
Did you know that Seattle sells the most sunglasses per-capita of anyplace in the US? Now you know why. Cuz, we need ‘em, then we don’t…then we do…then we don’t…then we lose ‘em…then we buy another pair…then we drop them off the ferry boat watching the waves…then we need ‘em so we buy another pair, then we break those because we took them off and forgot about them because we didn’t need them and they got squashed in the door pocket while we were searching for change for the drive-thru Starbucks…etc.
I live in Seattle…and I ALWAYS need new sunglasses!
Poop! I just started reading Bossy last week, way too late in the game to become part of the In Crowd and meet her in Seattle. I’m just an hour away (and I love the Pink Door!)
