Wish Bossy Luck.
Remember all that stuff about Bossy leaving Washington State toward Idaho? Well not so fast. It turns out that there is a weather advisory for the Snoqualmie Pass Road that connects Seattle to Bossy’s next stop in Boise. A weather advisory means it’s snowing up there and it also means they are recommending that tires have chains.
Which says nothing about the Avalanche Advisory.
P.S. Bossy doesn’t know from Passes. She grew up on the 19th floor of a high rise, and the only Pass she ever concerned herself over was the Backstage Pass she secured in order to meet her husband.
But here in Washington State, a pass refers to the road that cuts over the mountains and connects the nice people of Seattle to things like lox and bagels in the east:
There’s just something about icy roads and falling rock on narrow mountain roads at five in the morning that sets Bossy’s heart to Palpitate Mode.
So Bossy’s new plan for Wednesday morning is to travel back down to Portland in order to cut through the mountain range and extend her driving day by two hours because we all know how much she enjoys getting Carpal Tunnel Feet:

Sorry you couldn’t make it to the Portland meet up…we got a little worried after waiting 4 HOURS for you to show up. (I guess we didn’t get the memo, but we managed to have a good time anyway!) Bossy – I’m a regular reader, but I’ve been *gasp* away from my computer and just found out that you were in Portland, and are apparently still in Portland.
Can I help?
1) It’s not USUALLY this nasty this late into spring. It’s not good, but it’s not this horribly cold and BAD.
2) Take I-84. Come down I-5, cross over into Oregon, and head east. You will drive through some of the MOST AMAZING scenery on the planet, you can stop in Troutdale at McMenamins Edgefield for lunch, (where I was proposed to, BTW), check out Multnomah Falls, and drive on toward I-da-ho. It’s freeway, well maintained, and a straight shot through.
3) Love your road trip. It’s been fun to watch.

I am soooo very familiar with that route! My husband and I drove from Salt Lake City to Seattle every year at Christmas and the pass can be nasty. The drive through Portland and along the river is really beautiful. Be careful once you get to the eastern part of Oregon because it can be pretty foggy. Drive safely!!!

Just swing that Saturn a bit south and visit the great state of Texas. The weather is beautiful and Cowboy Josh is here. Actually we have several Cowboy Joshes.
Smart move Bossy.. I was in Seattle with my two kidlets over Spring Break… We had the same thing happen.. but we drove over the pass at 10 am – saw tons of accidents… 5am would be a disaster… The interstate was closed westbound from Ellensburg all the way to the pass.. really bad stuff!
So! My offer is still good for a Baker City visit and Sexton Ranches quick tour!!!! And there is a decent Mexican Restaurant in Baker..and a Brew Pub (Barley Brown’s) as well as those two adorable coffee shops mentioned previously… BELLA & Mad Matilda’s.. Just in case you venture out on your own.. OH.. Our ranch is off the Anthony Lakes Highway, which is bee-u-tee-ful! You can see Llamas, our Great Pyraneese guard dog, sheep, cattle, and our puppy possie..and it’s 25 degrees right now… Supposed to get up to 52… Warmer tomorrow, so I hear!
An ounce of caution is worth a pound of BOSSY. Be careful!
Wow Bossy, you are having quite the excellent road trip. I can’t wait til you get to Cleveland….I so want to meet you, but I need to know how! I am sure there is a button I click on, or some other such thing painfully obvious to everyone else but me (My family often refers to me as Capt. Obvious) Have a safe trip and I am sure that the extra 2 days driving time will be so worth not having huge amounts of stress on you while you drive.

I’ve heard about 5:00 a.m., but it never involved roads and ice and boulders. It was all about down comforters and stupid dreams and drooling.

Hi Bossy – new here courtesy of Redneck Mommy. Funny!! The speck in your pictures is probably a result of dust on your camera sensor. I have the same prob w/my camera. Either take it to the shop or pick up some Giotti Blaster (bought at camera shop)and you can fix it yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you to use “canned air”, this could mess the camera. Happy trails.

Those passes can certainly be pesky. You are definitely deserving a foot massage (or twelve) when you get home. Be safe! And feel free to call us if you need anything.

Does Bossy know that there really is such a thing as “carpal tunnel feet”? Only they’re called “tarsal tunnels” when they’re in the feet. Bossy is smarter than she thought!
The scenery in the Columbia River Gorge is worth the 2 extra hours of drive time! Hope you had your eyes off the road just enough to take in all the waterfalls, and hope you stopped at 1 or 2 along the way. Enjoy your great road adventure and remember – Drive Like a Maniac!
Hope it all goes well… And those illustrations of the road are pretty scary, it’s times like this that I’m glad I’ve never met a pass on the road.

Bossy was 5 minutes from my house and I didn’t even know it because I was so far behind in reading my feeds. Sniffle.
Next time (ha! will there be a next time?), I’ll let you sleep at our house if you need to outwait the weather at the pass.
Oh, and just so you know, Washingtonians are way babies about snow. They say avalanche for anything. They close schools for an inch of snow. You probably could have made it.
Driving back through Oregon? Pa-sha! Your East cost butt could have made it.
