this is a really underrated cd, pets is the hit, but there are a lot of good songs…

I missed all this great music, because it came along during a period in my life when I didn’t listen to the radio or watch TV much. But I loved Jane’s Addiction (still think ‘Been Caught Stealing’ is one of the most joyful romps ever, and the steel drum version of ‘Jane Said’ is SO GREAT) and am glad you made the connection to P4P for me. ‘Pets’ is spectacular.

Every time I hear this song I am reminded of the night when at 15 years old my friend and I snuck out of our homes and roamed the streets. We wanted to buy a pack of cigarettes but no one would sell them to us. Finally two older boys who drove a pickup truck stopped and picked us up. We rode in the back of the truck because we didn’t want to die and we thought that way if they were murderers we could just jump out at a stoplight. They bought us cigarettes and drove us back to their apartment which had hardly any furniture. They played guitar for us for hours while we smoked cigarettes and then one of them drove us home. He made googly eyes at my friend in the driveway and I felt like a third wheel as this song played.
