Bossy’s Ear Worm

Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Frank Sinatra, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

This is one of Bossy’s favorite Christmas carols, performed by her favorite Christmas crooner, Frank Sinatra. Sister Mercy, Bossy and her family, when Bossy was growing up, wore the grooves off this record. It wasn’t the holidays without it.

This song was originally written at the tale end of World War ll for Judy Garland’s Meet Me In St. Louis, and sported much more dire lyrics in keeping with the movie’s plot, in which the father of a family wants to move his family to New York City away from their beloved hometown of St. Louis and all of their friends and family, “Have yourself a merry little Christmas, it may be your last, Next year we may all be living in the past…

Although the words were cleaned up and the song is mostly about togetherness, it still strangely and perfectly captures the feeling of spending the holidays away from those most dear to you. And it just sends Bossy.

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years
We all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself A merry little Christmas now
