Bossy’s Ear Worm

revolver-the-beatles

Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

The Beatles, For No One.

This is one of Bossy’s favorite songs, let alone favorite Beatles’ songs. Credited to Lennon and McCartney, it was actually written and almost exclusively performed by Paul, save for a couple of instrumental parts. John Lennon and George Harrison are nowhere to be found on this recording.

Paul said he wrote this song after yet another argument with then girlfriend Jane Asher, but Bossy often wonders if even Paul was shocked by the finality of what he was writing.

Bossy doesn’t have much more to add — it’s just a beautiful, beautiful song. A beautiful song made up of a sad, winding melody, a syncopated clavichord and piano line which suggest the busy toil of a relationship, a bass line as clear as a church bell, and a french horn solo that manages to impart a hopeful optimism despite the end of a romance.
