Bossy’s Ear Worm

revolver-the-beatles

Welcome to Bossy’s Ear Worm, which features songs currently in Bossy’s headphones. Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

The Beatles, For No One.

This is one of Bossy’s favorite songs, let alone favorite Beatles’ songs. Credited to Lennon and McCartney, it was actually written and almost exclusively performed by Paul, save for a couple of instrumental parts. John Lennon and George Harrison are nowhere to be found on this recording.

Paul said he wrote this song after yet another argument with then girlfriend Jane Asher, but Bossy often wonders if even Paul was shocked by the finality of what he was writing.

Bossy doesn’t have much more to add — it’s just a beautiful, beautiful song. A beautiful song made up of a sad, winding melody, a syncopated clavichord and piano line which suggest the busy toil of a relationship, a bass line as clear as a church bell, and a french horn solo that manages to impart a hopeful optimism despite the end of a romance.

Fer chrissake, that’s a good one. But my money is still on Here, There and Everywhere. Makes me cry every time.

about a billion years ago when he was in high school, a girl broke up with my dad so he took a lathe to a Beatles record so that it would only play “you won’t see me” and dropped it on her doorstep. who would break up with someone so adorable and crafty??

I am so grateful that Jane Asher turned out NOT to be THE ONE. If not, we would not have had Linda. Good lord, is that sentence full of double negatives? I am now confused.

Check out the you tube version too.
It’s Paul live in the studio playing it for the first time to George Martin. The same George Martin who I always assumed wrote that very same french horn part. But there Paul is , doing his Bobby McFerrin with the solo note for note.. even in demo stage. A completely fetching vid.

Very cool, I may follow you on your musical journey. I have been so bored lately. A lot of new stuff is garbage.

The bar was closed on Sundays in San Jose, but we opened it up about 10am to have a few beers and dance to the jukebox.
The Beatles blared for hours until the beer won and everyone was tired and sweaty.

Many years later I was thrilled when my Son announced that he has just bought the Beatles white album—{maybe it was even called the White Album).
Perhaps my Grand Kids will find them also

Wondering if you are ever going to change the ear worm selection? I don’t mind this, mind you. I love this song and soooo connect with it every time I log on. Just sayin’…
