Dear Bossy

Can you teach an old cat a new trick? We just installed a pet door so our fat cat can go in and out at will – but the door totally freaks him out. What shall I do?

Dear Kitty Carlisle,

Remove the pet door flap and lure the cat through the opening several hundred times with a favorite treat. If you can’t remove the flap, tape the flap open so the cat can pass unencumbered. If your pet door has a magnet or other mechanism for snapping closed, temporarily remove this component because it may provide too much resistance for your timid cat.
