Just A Little Hump Day Tale
Bossy is not a fan of change. And here Bossy is not referring to coins, but rather sister mercy they changed the way quarters look in 1999 and twelve years later Bossy still thinks it’s an arcade token.
As someone who doesn’t enjoy change, it may surprise exactly no one to learn whenever Bossy jogs through her neighborhood, Bossy runs the exact same route. But it’s not like it gets old. She’s only been doing this 260 times a year for the last period wrapped in an era inside an eon.
First Bossy goes up this street, then she turns down that street, past the house for sale, beyond the recycling center, and then she comes to this:
It’s the intersection near Bossy’s Co-Op grocery store where Bossy turns left past the fire station:
And then Bossy emerges from the bank parking lot onto a small street and is greeted with the following encouragement:
Can Bossy’s esteemed council see that? It says On!
And it doesn’t just say On once, it says On over and over again!
This On never ceases to lift Bossy’s spirit, as Bossy rounds that quiet corner toward the halfway mark in her running routine — a mere 10,560 steps from completion when Bossy can resume a prostrate position! And yet apparently Bossy is still On!
But then one day, the always adventurous Bossy who embraces change decided to reverse her jogging route:
Wow, you should definitely go back to your usual direction… “ON ON ON” is so much more affirming than “NO NO NO.”
I love your neighborhood. a friend of mine lives a few houses away and we’ve driven through a few times.
I thought that ON might have been NO but I wasn’t sure why NO is there. Now I know.
You know it says “NO” because the fabric of the Universe might come unraveled if you run your route in reverse, don’t you? Or maybe that’s just my OCD talking.
I like the routine of the same streets, too. Except I keep wanting to stop at people’s houses and say things like, “your house would look better without that heinous awning, you know”.
Damn. I always thought it said ON, too. Shoot.

P.S. I love the ‘NL’ s I see on my route driving (!) home. That’s when the O and Y have worn off . Being orginally from The Netherlands (NL), it always warms my heart.
That is the mother of all fire stations, with it’s prepackaged answer to any question: no No NO. I guess it just got tired of being asked.

NO NO NO… go BACK! EAT COOKIES! DRINK WINE! Oh wait… that’s what I hear in my head when I run. If only such affirmation was written on my path.
Oh that is FUNNY! I love it. I can’t relate to the always running the same route, though: that would make me crazed.
So this is how you keep that belly flat.
I am STILL of the firm belief that no one should “run” unless being chased by a crazed person. With an Ax. And a purpose.

But this is 2011… and 2012 – 1999 is 13. Bossy’s calculator is being silly.
Reminds Olivia of the time she was walking through a strange airport and kept seeing “Way Out” signs. Olivia thought that meant that where she was going was w-a-a-a-a-y out (as in she had a long way to go.)
Ah well, Olivia was tired – she had been travelling “stand-by” as in “stand-up-all-night” by………
Totally agree with Bossy about the quarters. What were they thinking? Might as well change the national motto to “E Pluribus Skeeball.” Or at least let us spend Chuck E Cheese tokens as quarters. Whichever.
PS – Bossy’s fire station looks like a place where little old Swiss ladies bake cookies out of sunflowers and unicorn dreams. Ours looks like a campground restroom. Wassup wit dat?

NO, NO, NO is what my body would scream if I tried to run.
No No No seems about right when it comes to running/jogging for me.
I say keep going with the On On On’s.
Also rumour has it my great uncle invented skeeball. True story.
It’s a good thing Bossy ran the On On On way 3,119 times before she ran that route backwards and it told her No No No…Also- I sure do admire your stamina!
Well, if it makes you feel any better, the entire time reading that I was going, “gee I wonder why they would paint the word ON there?” Never occurred to me it was NO. And now I want to go to D&B and play skeeball!!
I use my treadmill because of the vicious dogs in my rural area. Scary! I close my eyes and daydream until i can look at the screen and know I’ve done at least 25min. Then it’s easier to go 15 to 20 min. more.Can you tell I LOVE doing this? Blegh. I need it and it’s working, but iwish there was a pill I could take instead!
