Meet The World’s Newest High School Student

We know her, we love her — it’s Bossy’s daughter! And this past week, Bossy’s daughter, along with the rest of her public middle school’s 8th grade class, walked across the bridge to high school.

This is both a symbolic crossing and an actual crossing, as the pedestrian bridge connects the two school buildings in Bossy’s neighborhood.

It was an emotional graduation ceremony, with many inspirational speeches — but the words Bossy will remember most were spoken by the principal of Bossy’s daughter’s high school.

She asked the students to think about the way they would be described today — and then she asked the students to think about the way they would like to be described in the future. Her point was the disparity between those two descriptions is within each student’s power to control, because high school can act as a clean slate as long as you believe you can be anyone you want to be.

All this talk about the future made Bossy think about the past, and the very first photos Bossy put on her website of her daughter, over a handful of years ago.

Thanks for being there, council. It takes an internet to raise a family.

The friends you make there will come and go, but it’s the ones that are left years later that are the best friends you’ll have. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to study, haha!!!     Congrats to Bossy’s daughter. Love the ritual. At my high school there was a penchant for assemblies and an auditorium large enough to hold the population.

    End of year assembly. Seniors stood at the front and tossed around a crying towel saying stuff. Then they left for graduation practice. Each class moved up into their designated area until the graduating eighth graders walked over from the middle school and took their places at the back of the hall. I loved that whole business. Got to be a part of it three times.

    Well, MY introduction to iambossy.com was hair sculptures from clogged shower pipes, but my introduction to BOSSY Daughter came soon thereafter, and I have been very pleased to watch her grow up from afar. What a lovely young lady with a beautiful soul.

    Thank you, Bossy, for highlighting a transition from middle school to high school that’s not overloaded with gowns, speeches, mortarboards and general pomposity. My son is going into ninth grade and his school did nothing to acknowledge the transition, which was fine with me because I saw so many of his friends and cousins, end even kindergarten students (!) having full-blown graduation ceremonies, which is just not necessary. To my mind, the main achievement of any kid moving from middle to high school is simply surviving those traumatic early teenage years.

    Oh my goodness! Bossy’s beautiful daughter has been growing up right before our very eyes. But I too am amazed to realize she’s not actually also on the verge of leaving for college. Soon enough, soon enough! (Be still, Bossy’s heart!) Will there be time for a guest post or two over the summer? I still remember some really excellent room re-designs that were featured here a time or two ago. And the beach reports from Europe! Whatever you may be up to, enjoy yourself this fine summer, lovely daughter!.

    I think that Bossy’s Daughter is an Internets Roll Model for my daughter who recently crossed a bridge from Brownies to Juniors in Girl Scouts. They, too, crossed a real bridge and stuff.

    I can’t think of a better person for my newly ordained 4th grade daughter to look up to.

    Congratulations! We went through that transition last year, except it was my oldest, not my youngest. I love that there’s a bridge – what a fun tradition. Savor these last-ever milestones with your baby – my kindergartener “graduated” the other day and I was all kinds of weepy.

    Ahhhh, high school. Bossy’s daughter should keep in mind not to wear red plastic shorts with an elastic waistband to the high school. Because some dumb senior boy will sneak up behind her and pull them down to her ankles.

    The first thing I remember about bossy’s daughter was her sweet smile. I think the girls were in the 2nd grade. When I found out her name was Daisy, I thought “what a perfect name for such a sunny smiling girl”.
