Bossy’s Favorite Things.

Mostly because Bossy has always had the fantasy of living in a loft, which this is, and especially a loft in Manhattan, which Bossy pretends this is.
Bossy loves the makeshift solutions, such as the curtain and screen as room divider, and the utilitarian use of the trouble light, clipped to a conduit along the brick wall.
But mostly: the room is so spare, and did Bossy ever tell you the bedtime story about how much she hates clutter? Bossy is sorry, is she shouting?
And in this picture, there are painted plank floors which can be broomed, ostensibly before enjoying a glass of that white wine and slipping out into the Manhattan day.
Dear Bossy, I love that picture too. Unfortunately, I forgot about your allergy to clutter, and so I must rescind my offer for you to stay on my couch if you ever decide to embark upon Bossy’s Excellent East Coast Road Trip. Then again, perhaps judicious application of mojitos would help you to manage in my cluttered world. Lemme know…

If you lived in a loft in Manhattan, you wouldn’t have a poverty party. That would be great.
Drinking wine before slipping out into the Manhattan day? If Bossy intends to live in Manhattan, she’s better confine her drinking to the post-sunset hours. Unless Mr. Cusack is paying for that loft.
That’s funny: WE have plank floors that can be (but usually aren’t . . .) broomed, and WE enjoy the utilitarian use of trouble lights all over the place, and yet, our house looks nothing like this photo . . .
P.S. Please excuse the correction, but I really feel this is an important distinction to make: The light in that photo isn’t a trouble light. (A trouble light is one of those ones that looks like a bulb on a stick and has a wire cage around it–and I know this because we have no less than four trouble lights standing in for regular lights on our property. We’re in trouble a lot.) That actually looks like a heat lamp. Like the one we have one in our chicken coop. But our chicken coop doesn’t look like that photo.
I have painted wooden floors too and they are a you know what to sweep. All the little crumbs go down in the floor boards. Uh, pain in the butt.
Sorry to pee on the parade.
But after a while, the little crumbs in the cracks would start to resemble grout, and then you could say it’s a cool new “flooring.” Cuz, you know, you live in MANHATTAN and all…
If Bossy is allergic to clutter, she must be on anti-histamines all day long, based on her constant critiques of her clutter-full homestead. Kind of like someone with a peanut allergy working the assembly line for Skippy.
Lovely! But in Manhattan, this lovely loft would be covered in grit and grime in no time. White lofts are better suited to non-cities, I think.
Jenn loves the blue and white color scheme. Which you would know if you’d ever seen Jenn’s white and cobalt blue kitchen which makes her happy every time she walks in the door (unless someone has left clutter on the counters).
Bossy is wrong, that is not an apartment in Manhatten, that is a small cottage by a lake, and it is not Bossy’s fantasy, it’s mine. How dare you?
I too, love the photo. I was fortunate enough to live in a 100+ year old loft (with exposed brick and original mosaic tile floors and everything!) until fall of last year. Then it came time to decide: Live in gorgeous loft with awful boyfriend for the rest of my life? Or leave gorgeous loft and seek out happiness?
Veeerrrry tough. I really loved that loft. The boyfriend? Not so much. Now, I live in a regular apartment with a broken heart. (Broken over the loft, not the boyfriend.)
Bossy looks at the same blogs and magazines as me. And Bossy likes the same pics and has the same magazines as me. I too fantasize about having zero clutter, and lots of extra storage space. And white, white, white. But, I live with a packrat and have four dogs.
Sigh. Simply gorgeous. Emphasis on the simply.
I love clutter (organized clutter that is – my son’s toys all over the place are just not conducive to loft living!) but I am curious as to why one would put a rug on the table instead of the floor….
Broomed? How charming. Even in my fantasies the wet/dry vac is the only thing that works.
I don’t know if that runner is of the table or rug variety, but I do know my clumsy ass would be tripping on it. Otherwise it is lovely. The room dividing curtain especially.
Bossy you do have the funniest commenters… but you know that!
This photo appeals to me, and repels me at the same time… the whole light-clutter-free-shabby-chic thing grooves… but the whole showing-dust-noise-sharing-can’t-reach-the-cobwebs thing? Ah don’t think so!!
The wine stash however… I’ll arm wrestle you for it!!!

The best part aside from the whole minimalist shabby yada yada thing is the collection of wine that looks ready to drink while watching one’s pretend husband sweep those lovely planky (it is so a word) floors
which brings me to the question…. what color should I paint my bedroom plank floors??? Bossy and friends please help!
