Bossy’s Favorite Things

Her blue ankle bracelet.

Three years ago, Bossy’s daughter crawled under the desk where Bossy was working and ambushed Bossy’s ankle with a piece of blue yarn. She tied it so quietly and snuck away so seamlessly, it took Bossy several minutes to figure out what happened.

And then just to spite her giggling daughter, Bossy decided she would never remove it.

The above photo was taken in Bossy’s favorite place a few months into the life of the ankle bracelet. It’s become a much sicklier version in the intervening years, but Bossy has been loath to snip the remains away.

But she thinks she may this weekend. In with the new.

   I once made my mother the most godawful pin from popsicle sticks for mother’s day. No wait, and imagine that…a pin, with popsicle sticks. This was a BIG pin. She pinned it to her blouse the next day while getting ready for her big job at the big bank in the big city…and though now I know she may very well have stuck it in her purse as soon as I got on the bus, she was wearing it still that day when she came home from work. I will never forget how proud I was that day. Seems to me it might be the same deal with Bossy’s daughter. It takes love to wear some raggedy yarn for three years.
