Bossy’s Favorite Things.
Packin ‘em in like sardines.
Bossy knows many people. Many people with beautiful, enormous houses. Many people with beautiful, enormous houses sporting ample living rooms and new kitchens featuring things like baking islands and faucets with only one task: to deliver spaghetti water.
But many of those people in their enormous well-appointed houses don’t entertain, and Bossy can never ever wrap her brain around this.
Meanwhile Bossy lives in a shoebox diorama that fits four, unless one of the four living in the shoebox diorama leaves their shoes in the middle of the floor and then the house becomes too small for four people. And yet Bossy couldn’t have more gatherings of 100+ people in her house if she were paid, and oh my, Bossy is sort of paid: in great company and lots of laughs.
The leftover booze doesn’t hurt either.
I’m with you on this Bossy. I love to entertain and do not understand why others don’t. I do have a big house and it is great for large crowds, even sleepovers.

Ah, I love to entertain too, even if it means someone has to eat cucumber sandwiches while standing in my bathroom.
The drawback to having one of those big houses and entertaining? REALLY BIG parties. Our big old house has seven bedrooms. Our big parties regularly surpass 100 people. And the leftover bottles of wine regularly surpass a dozen, so I guess it all evens out in the end.
I love parties in comfy houses, and I like throwing parties, too. My house isn’t huge, especially the space we allow for entertaining, but I love having people over. Our backyard is great for entertaining because it’s on a canyon. Why, we’re having a big BBQ tomorrow night–come on over!
Leftover Booze? What?
I’m with ya, Bossy…I’m hosting a sale for 30 artists this weekend in my tiny little shoebox studio (20×20) and at the opening night party (Gah! On Friday!!!) we regularly cram in 100 people.
I’m just hoping for dry weather so they can spill out onto the patio. (operative word=spill, when booze and artists are involved!)

Looks like a great time was had by all at Bossy’s party! And that is one of the reasons some of us dont entertain-the bar has been set pretty high (so to speak…).
I, too, am a famous houseparty packer. I like it. It makes people mingle.
A friend of mine calls my parties “Butts to Nuts” Parties. Unless there are a lot of girls there. Then she says it’s always “Lips to Hips” in there. Gross, right? But funny.
I also have the smallish house and the biggish parties. I love that feeling when everyone has to turn sideways to move through a room. We have a Boxing Day party every year and it’s swingin’! We have an old upright player piano that gets a workout — love the player piano! Love the parties! Go, Bossy, go!
I’m married to a recluse so we have one large party every third year or so, in August when (a) we can all spread out through the gardens and on the lawn etc and (b) I snort with delight because I used to live where it was real hot and NObody considered ANYthing outdoors in August but now I live in here and I can. So I do.
I live in a huge house (and I have a spaghetti water faucet:-) and all I do is entertain. I love it or I wouldn’t do it, but would sure like to get invited to a party like yours at your house or someone else’s!! I have threatened to quit entertaining so everyone else will have to pick up the pace!! BTW….I love Bossy’s house.
Well how is this… I do live in an enormous house (no spaghetti-only-assigned taps however) and I DO have constant deluges of people coming through like tsunami’s of goodwill and gorging. However I am a shocking housekeeper and my theory is that if there is enough people jammed in, no-one will notice the mess (or if they do, they’ll blame it on the visitors). I have no idea if I am getting away with it – I’m afraid to find out!!!
