Bossy’s Favorite Things

The Small Surprises.

In this case it was Saturday night, and Bossy had gone to see her brother, who was last minute sitting-in with a band whose regular guitar player came down with the flu.

The fact that they rocked out a wide range of song favorites didn’t surprise Bossy since they are a cover band whose members have been around for a long, long time.

But what was surprising was how cool this bar was, not far from Bossy’s house and yet she’s never been. Mothers with their drinking-age daughters, older daughters with their white-haired mothers, sisters dancing with their neighbors — it was a classic, friendly, neighborhood bar, and with the bar napkins shoved in Bossy’s ears to obscure the Philly accents, Bossy could pretend she was actually in small town Ireland.

In whatever case, Bossy didn’t go to bed until 3:30 in the morning, just the way she likes it every once in a while.

   I love neighborhood bars. I’m from Annapolis, MD and there were several there, but living in TN now, and I’m afraid to go in most of them. ONe day I’m going on the ulitmate pub crawl though.. in Ireland!
