Bossy’s Favorite Things

This documentary on HBO.

It was done by Bossy’s documentary filmmaker friend Doug. It’s about the year his daughter leaves home to go to college on the opposite coast, but it also features footage of her taken over the many years — and tears, council!

It’s so thoughtfully done and perfectly captures the struggle and beauty of letting our children go. Besides, if done correctly, those children always come back. Um, right?

Bossy can relate to the closeness Doug shares with his daughter. Of course they love each other, but it’s always so pleasing for Bossy to watch a parent and their offspring truly get each other.

   I had been wanting to see this but couldn’t make the San Diego premiere last year. When I was in Chicago in May it happened to be playing at a small screening house so I caught it. I was struck at how poised and mature his lovely daughter seemed.

   Of course they come home. Our Sorority Girl is moving back home in 4 days. My empty nest will be a little crowded for the next 18 months. She is sure her social life will suffer!
