Yet Another Little Known Fact.
For the last bit of time, Bossy’s district has been building a new Middle School so they can knock the old one down. Here it is, finally complete, and last night they held an open house for the neighborhood, and Bossy is here to tell you: the neighborhood showed up. Old folks, young childless couples, elementary school kids, curious high schoolers. And that’s why Bossy loves her neighborhood.
The school on the outside? Eh.

yeah. but they are taking down a beautiful (crappy, rodent infested, unsafe but beautiful) old style school. and I think this one looks a little like a soup factory.
I haven’t been in it, mind you, and I could just be ranting from a place of envy, given that I don’t even get to work in the cinder block fortress of a school across the street, I get to work in a portable trailer filled with stink bugs and dust next to the cinder block fortress.
Oh nonononono, Bossy…the oustide is awesome and modern! And the red window frames??? Ah. Mah. Gad. I covet. And really, who cares if the outside isn’t all warm and fuzzy, right? Cuz, it sounds like the inside certainly IS.
Were they serving refreshments of any sort? Because you know those seniors will show up for an Open Anything if there’s food.
Nice middle school. I hope they have a nice auditorium for Bossy’s daughter.
This looks SO much better than our middle school, which is cat infested, unvacuumed, toilet’s need cleaning, landscape needs help, books on the floor, no proper desks, 1600 sq feet of dishes that aren’t washed. Yes, our middle school could definitely use help! But we don’t seem to have the budget or staff for that kind of thing. I weep for the future. Yours looks tres modern. Love it!
Geesh, “institutional” is an understatement here…all that’s missing are bars on the windows and barbed wire across the chain link fence…
Love the happy Chinese red window frames. The green says Alcatraz to me, but it IS a school, after all . . .
The other day a 60-something man who went to the little country school that I went to (right through 8th grade) and my daughters go to now . . . was complaining that they tore down the old school with fine wood detailing and casement windows, etc. He believed they didn’t need to. He hadn’t known about the chunk of plaster that fell from the ceiling one day in the main auditorium. No one was around, but we got lucky.
Safety is progress, even if it’s bland. Happy new school. : )
Looks like a school. Why can’t the schoolboard ever use imagination? Although, what are those funny little metal porches above the windows? Do those fold down into burgler bars? Are they tiny fire escapes? Clothes lines? What??
Much nicer than my daughter’s cookie cutter middle school!
It isn’t the building that makes a school grand anyways. We all know it is the dedicated teachers and staff and the students.

Why would you shell out the money to build a brand new school building…………..
If you had spent money on maintenance throughout the years, it would have been much less expensive in the long run!
Urgh, ugly building. I agree with Zelzee — and the old buildings have so much more personality. I hope they let an architectural salvage group go through the old building and save what they can before they tear it down.
