Bossy's Excellent Road Trip. Day Two.
1626. This painting is in the National Gallery and it’s by Sir Anthony Van Dyck. In the painting a Genoese noblewoman sits on a throne grasping her son’s chalky hand and to the left of the noblewoman lays a completely screwed-up Oriental rug—which led Bossy to believe she was viewing the very first example of reality TV.
Road Trip who? Oh yeah. So Bossy is in D.C. Does one need an additional period after the C in D.C. if that C indicates the end of the sentence? And when Bossy is inquiring if one needs an additional period she is talking about one who has more than 20 minutes remaining on their parking meter located directly outside of the Silver Spring Starbucks, and when Bossy says one she is talking about one who cares.
Bossy interrupts this ramble post already in progress for the following Public Service announcement: mmm Mocha Latte.
Next: Bossy loves her D.C. posse. First she hung out in the art museum with Sarah until Bossy mentioned it sure would be nice to have a glass of wi—and before Bossy was finished her sentence Sarah and Bossy were flying down the museum steps on the way to the nearest pub. Which if you know Washington’s National Mall, you know is about six blocks too far and Bossy’s Note To Self: build a bar on the National Mall.
Next Bossy and Sarah went to the blogger get-together in—surprise—a bar. There were hundreds of cool bloggers. Or at least they ordered as if there were hundreds of them—they ordered one each of every appetizer on the menu. Yes way. And raise your hand if you’ve ever eaten Fried Pickles. Hellsa yes, and it comes with dipping sauce because there isn't enough salt and saturated fat in Fried Pickles eaten alone.
Then Bossy retired to her host’s house, and how sick are we of hearing about Vuboq? Great guy this, great host that. Wish Vuboq luck as he goes off on a job interview today. Because today is the perfect day to interview after a morning of interruption as Bossy hogged the only bathroom.
And lastly: XM radio. It came with Bossy’s anyone? Anyone? Saturn. Bossy would love to tell you all about the abundant assortment of music stations to suit every nationality and genre, but so far Bossy hasn’t budged the radio beyond Oprah & Friends, and about that station, Bossy has this to say: Maya Angelou has a hypnotic voice guaranteed to put anyone to sleep behind the wheel.
More later.

I SOOO missed being there!!! :-( Can BOSSY come back?

Awesome!
Posted by: Strizz | March 26, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Let the record show that we ordered two orders of fried pickles. YUM! Also, BOSSY did not hog the bathroom.
To the other bloggers who will be meeting BOSSY: You are going to have the MOST AWESOMEST TIME. EVER!
Posted by: vuboq | March 26, 2008 at 10:51 AM
The greatness of this blog is becoming too much to bear.
Posted by: Steph | March 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM
Mississippi is all about fried pickles. I'll have to tote some over the state line to Louisiana for you, I suppose.
And BOSSY, seriously, try to be maybe not quite so pretty when you come down here. What day are we? Like Day 96? You should be appropriately haggard by then.
Posted by: Velveteen Mind Megan | March 26, 2008 at 11:04 AM
Really terrific first day! One question, with all of the sight-seeing, blogging, drinking and eating...who be doin' the driven?
Posted by: Peg | March 26, 2008 at 11:05 AM
So very very very sad I'm not going to be able to join you in Atlanta tomorrow. But my offer still stands that if you DO drive right through Charlotte en route, and it happens to be mealtime-ish, we will meet you wherever you are. Okay? Okay.
Travel safely!

Can't wait till you roll into Indy!

Bossy rocks. I hope I get a chance to meet ya while you're in L.A.
Posted by: Tyn | March 26, 2008 at 11:08 AM
Fried pickles are the best! I know a great place for them in the midwest!
Posted by: sonrie | March 26, 2008 at 11:10 AM
Genius.
Posted by: martha | March 26, 2008 at 11:10 AM
The rug is hastly covering up the scratch marks on the floor from darling little boy scooting mummy's chair around on the bare slate.
Posted by: Amber Lee | March 26, 2008 at 11:11 AM
This is getting way too exciting!
I really want to see a picture of Bossy in her Saturns...maybe Saturn is doing that and it's part of a future promo to be shown during the Olympics..so they have exclusive rights.
Posted by: Grandma J | March 26, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Sorry the virus kept me home! :( Come back, BOSSY!
Posted by: PunditMom | March 26, 2008 at 11:17 AM
And hopefully you'll be able to hear PunditMom on XM Channel 130 (POTUS '08) again in the near future, as you're exploring the country.
Posted by: PunditMom | March 26, 2008 at 11:20 AM
This is so exciting! It's almost like I have lots of friends and am going on a road trip. Just without the constipation.

Looks like a great time! Love the picture!
Posted by: Cindy Z | March 26, 2008 at 11:36 AM
I have awaited this post.
That is aLOT of appetizers. Did you have Fried Cheese Curds. I'm craving those...
Looks like an excellent start to an excellent adventure!

No extra period required. If the Chicago Style Guide says otherwise, it is wrong.
Posted by: Pete Dunn | March 26, 2008 at 12:02 PM
It does not surprise me that those are the last few bloggers standing. Or sitting, as it were.
Posted by: Chicky Chicky Baby | March 26, 2008 at 12:13 PM
Hopefully VUBOQ was not the only biological male at this gathering.
Posted by: David | March 26, 2008 at 12:15 PM
I only see one wine glass on the table. How can that be?
Don't post and drive...
Posted by: Manic Mommy | March 26, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Don't worry, Manic Mommy. There is another wine glass on the window sill behind Bossy. And assorted (empty) glassware throughout the table. You just can't see it that well!
Posted by: merrymishaps | March 26, 2008 at 12:57 PM
I'm going to miss the Bay Area Bossy-Up, unfortunately, so in solidarity I'm eating a LOT of cheese and sitting on my ass for 35 days.
Posted by: Foolery | March 26, 2008 at 01:02 PM
I am lovin' Bossy's new shorter hair cut.
Wish I wasn't working nights. I would love to meet you in Atlanta tomorrow. If you come back in about 2 weeks all the azaleas and dogwoods will be blooming. Very pretty.
Posted by: psychophant | March 26, 2008 at 01:07 PM

Anybody with good advice on how to lose, oh, say, 40 pounds by mid April?? Anyone?
Posted by: countrymouse | March 26, 2008 at 01:49 PM
This looks like it was so much fun.
How exciting Bossy. I lurve this road trip!

Posted by: Isabel Kallman | March 26, 2008 at 01:50 PM
Thanks Bossy, I had a blast last night & I loved meeting everyone ! And hopefully the fact that it was my suggestion that we order one of everything (although the double order of pickles was Vuboq's idea) makes up for my lameness having parked in the stupid early-closing parking lot.
Posted by: Amy | March 26, 2008 at 02:13 PM
Bossy-you are amazing!! I wish I was on the road trip with you!! Have a great time and can't wait to hear all about your adventures!
Posted by: Laura | March 26, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Sure looks like fun!! Looking forward to every day's post!!
Oooooo Satellite radio... that's a big selling point for me!
Posted by: corrie | March 26, 2008 at 02:36 PM
In Ohio, we have fried EVERYTHING...even Twinkies.
Is Bossy going to tell us who those bloggers are? Other than Sarah and the now-well-known Vuboq, I'm clueless.
Posted by: Momo Fali | March 26, 2008 at 02:39 PM
Dude. Your hair. Totally HOT.
Posted by: Surcie | March 26, 2008 at 02:57 PM
Okay Sarah I know and love but I need a who's-who of the rest.
So jealous.
Still.
Posted by: Jenny, Bloggess | March 26, 2008 at 03:19 PM
Or, you know, if you're passing through Greenville at mealtime. It's a lot more attractive than what you see on I-85, I swear.
Also, I want someone to report on Fried Cheese Curds -- I've seen the signs but I've been too afraid (smart?) to try them.
Posted by: JennyM | March 26, 2008 at 03:36 PM
No additional period after C if it comes at the end of the sentence.
Is it wrong that the name Van Dyck makes me snicker?
Turn off Oprah before Eckhardt Tolle comes on and turns you into an ego-less Oprahbot. Look away! Look away!
Posted by: wellreadhostess.com | March 26, 2008 at 03:38 PM
So fabulous! Can't wait to hear more. Vuboq, you take good care of Bossy now.
Posted by: dgm | March 26, 2008 at 03:40 PM
A true friend is one who doesn't even let you get to the end of the "wine sounds good" sentence before hustling you off to a bar.
Posted by: Amy | March 26, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Bossy, you can get wine IN the National Gallery of Art. Really. (right next to the Gelato!)
Sorry to miss you, it's spring break and I have all three boys home this week.
Couldn't get my visa stamped to cross over into Virginia for the evening celebration.
Have fun!
Posted by: threeboysindc | March 26, 2008 at 04:36 PM
Oh, I am so excited about Friday! Can't wait to see BOSSY! This road trip was such a swell idea. Glad things are going well. Drive safe, ya hear?!
Posted by: Buddysnuddys | March 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM
I usually write like DC, as opposed to D.C. And also, NW instead of N.W. But maybe that's just me. I'm punctuation-averse. (Except for hypens - and parentheses.)
Glad the DC gang brought it big for Bossy. I would have expected nothing less. Did anyone warn Bossy ahead of time that we likes us a happy hours-and-hours here in DC?
Posted by: Meg | March 26, 2008 at 09:59 PM
Oh, you sooooooooo owe me a visit in Harrisburg on your swing though back again. ;-)
Posted by: Jozet at Halushki | March 26, 2008 at 10:03 PM
holycrapinhell. i don't think they make fried pickles in san diego? what will we do? i know. i have a friend who has a turkey fryer. and they sell pickles at trader joe's. that should work, right? what could go wrong?
Posted by: kate | March 26, 2008 at 10:48 PM
I write The DC when I blog about The DC. It's just the way I roll.
I think I am the only one who is not a fan of the deep fried pickles. I expressed my disdain but once, and then shut up because I knew Bossy was going to have her way and the pickles would be ordered. Why? Because she's Bossy, that's why. You don't get to be Bossy by being meek.
Loved the evening, it was fabulous meeting the others on Stop 1 of The Tour!
Posted by: devra renner | March 27, 2008 at 12:53 AM
If you like fried pickles, I am sure you will love Toasted Ravioli.
And I do hope you are not afraid of heights?
I can't wait to stalk you meet you when you cruise through my hometown in your lovely Saturn vehicle.
Posted by: jaelithe | March 27, 2008 at 01:16 AM
Bossy, your hair looks fab!!!
Please, have many drinks and fried appy's for me!!!

i JUST saw the link to buy a blogWHORE shirt! and just bought one. i hope it fits my boobahs. if it don't, i blame you.
congrats congrats congrats on the road trip! i do have to say i was a bit weary of the whole thing... ONE chick driving CROSS country to meet a BUNCH of strangers?
then i was all.... didn't mtv do this once and didn't someone get spitted on and all?
ps .... i saw a fancy saturn convertible this weekend and couldn't believe how hot that was. people were staring. and not because the car was hot.... mostly because it was a SATURN. (that's like saying ESS EE ECKS in church!)
I JUST BOUGHT A BOSSY TSHIRT! are you comin to cali?
Posted by: Yo | March 27, 2008 at 02:59 AM
What fun!! Fried pickles, yummo!
Posted by: Tanya | March 27, 2008 at 06:52 AM
Oh yeah, fried pickles are available at the local pub in my town. Not that you'll be visiting. Sob. Looks like fun!
Posted by: Assertagirl | March 27, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Fried Pickles? No way.
I am positive you'd make one hell of a bank roll if you really did build a bar closer to the National Mall.
Looks like so much fun so far!

America will never be the same after your road trip.
I can't wait to read all these posts. Drive safe and have a blast.
Posted by: Brando | March 27, 2008 at 11:19 AM
Well I am not sure how well they are going to go with mojitos, but does anyone on the Chicago stop have a recipe for fried pickles? dear god, this menu is starting to look like a culinary catastrophe...
Posted by: Suburban Kamikaze | March 27, 2008 at 11:31 AM
That cornhole Chuckles should have been there. He also should have taken you to Ben's Chili Bowl.
Miss you!
Shall I feed Stella tonight?
Posted by: Adorable Girlfriend | March 27, 2008 at 12:01 PM
Being the number 1 stop on the tour ruled!
Note to everyone else: Don't stand next to BOSSY in a picture. You will look fat and ugly. But DO hang with her.
Once my stupid blog is back up I will be posting pictures of (me looking not as cute as BOSSY) the evening.
Posted by: Sarah, Goon Squad Sarah | March 27, 2008 at 01:48 PM
BOSSY HAS MY SHOES ON! I'm wearing them right now! Excellent road trip choice.
