Bossy Does Los Angeles – Guest Riders Day One
You are looking at the lovely Smacksy, and she is sitting in the passenger seat of Bossy’s new borrowed husband:
Perhaps you’ve already heard about Bossy’s latest stunt, which is to fly 2400 miles in order to drive people around! But not just any people around! Fun people around! And those fun people are showing Bossy the sights, sounds, and tastes that are typically L.A.
Shall we?
Bossy’s adventure began on Monday, which was approximately ninety-six hours of no sleep ago, when Bossy’s friends at Ford dropped off her vehicle:
The first thing Bossy and her husband the Ford Focus did as a newly married couple was to drive to the cutest neighborhood in the world, which will remain nameless for security purposes, but it rhymes with Mouth Facadena:
And it was in a neighborhood exactly like this or possibly even this neighborhood where Bossy and the Ford Focus picked up Bossy’s friend Smacksy, but you can call her The Cutest Girl Who Ever Lived for short:
And then Bossy and Smacksy drove directly into a vat of meat on a soggy roll:
It’s Philippe’s, which is famous for its french dipped sandwiches, which makes all kinds of sense since the place is located in the heart of Chinatown.
Philippe’s serving concept is as follows: wait in line, break a sweat deciding between the beef or the pork, kick the sawdust around your feet, grab an empty table.
Ultimately Bossy ordered the beef french dipped sandwich, while Bossy’s friend Smacksy selected the turkey french dipped sandwich, hold the roll:
And while we’re on the subject of wads of cotton, the many different side orders are on display in the restaurant’s case:
Following lunch, Bossy and her friend Smacksy walked around Chinatown and perused the many stores offering their very unique wares:
And then Bossy said goodbye to Smacksy so Bossy could capture the following very iconic photo of the Hollywood sign:

I love Phillippe’s!!! One of their beef sanwiches is obligatory for any trip to SoCal. And I thought the baked apple story was funny…

Ahhh, Phillipes! I grew up going there; it was a big event making the trek from Orange County into L.A., at least as a kid. (Of course, anything longer than a 5-minute drive is probably a “trek” when you’re 10 years old.)
When I was a kid, they had paper straws, even. And we had to walk in the snow to school uphill. Both ways.
No, seriously, they really did have paper straws. (And we’re talking the 1970’s, not 1940’s or anything!)
Is Bossy going to do another no book tour? I only started reading her blog two days after she passed through Phoenix and missed my chase to meet a big start like her.

Wanna know the best rental car tip EVER? Sit in the driver’s seat and look at the gas gauge. Find the little icon of the gas pump. Hey- what’s that little arrow next to it? It points to the side of the car with the gas fill hole. Yours, bossy, is on the right side of the car. Cool, no? Why did no one ever tell us about this?
Oh, Mouth Facadena is the cutest town ever! I used to love visiting there. You’re making me nostalgic for my LA days (which is pretty impressive since I really didn’t much like my LA days).

Kidding. It’s me. Up here in Etc., bummed that you’re too far south. Or Mouth, whatever.
I agree with the above comment about driving through Texas. Texas is way more awesome than California – other than California has better beaches. And better scenery in general. And arguably better food and wine.
But, Texas. Texas is where it’s at.
Yummm…Phillipe’s. Whenever I go there I always buy extra sanwiches to take home for lunch for a few days. My grandparents actually met at Phillipe’s in the 1940’s.
