Last night Bossy and her husband and daughter went to their small town’s center for the annual Christmas Tree Sale, which benefits the Fire Station, and hello have you met Mayberry?
Bossy’s husband noticed that the tree prices haven’t budged since last year. Looking at the above sign, you’ll see that the 4′ Balsams were $25. Only they had no trees under 6′.
Next we have the 6′-8′ Balsam Firs at $40, the 6′-7′ Fraser Firs at $45, the
7-8′ Fraser Firs at $55, and the enormous trees for blah blah Bossy will never live in a house that big blah.
The Balsam Firs are more prickly than the Fraser firs, and Bossy’s family doesn’t like prickly. And at Bossy’s tree place, the Fraser firs are organic without preservatives and Bossy’s family likes organic!
But lookee there, if a 8′ Fraser Fir is $55, and a 8′ Balsam fir is $40, can you guess which type of tree Bossy and her family purchased yesterday?
Hint: send bandaids. And gas masks.

Woah. SEVENTY-FIVE DOLLARS for a tree? I think my heart just stopped.
We go to this place where we can cut our own, and it’s basically a random house. No paths, no helpful people, no sign even. We pretty much drive into someone’s farmyard, hike around their property, chop down a tree, and deposit ten bucks in their birdhouse/cashbox. Yup, ten bucks. For any size tree. Ain’t nothin’ like country livin’.
Out here they have these gorgeous trees called Noble Firs. They can easily run $100. Which is why my husband insists that we get a boring old Douglas Fir from Home Depot. $25, yo!
I think you got off easy. . . My husband and I are suckers for a beautiful, yummy smelling tree. My lovely fraser fir set us back $74. Holy Moly. . .
I’m jumping on the bandwagon! I bought my tree at Ikea for $20 (I alos have a small house and want spindly skinny trees!) AND I received a $20 coupon off of a $75 purchase at IKEA between now and March 1. I need to replace my Kitchen counters and sink after christmas and in the spirit of saving I was going to do it at IKEA so I got my tree for FREE!!!
balsam! what do I win? Here in the evergreen state, in the upper left hand corner of your “continental” United States map…(can anyone guess of which state I am speaking??) We have trees a plenty, and we got an excellent one for about $35 and its 7 ft! Lord, its a leaner, tho..

Here in Seattle trees average $75-$125 so last year husband convinced me to buy a (gag) fake tree….. but, lo and behold, this year’s tree cost me $0, thanks to last year’s decision. This, coupled with the decision to skip the Christmas cards this year (which averages me $125 in supplies, because I make them) = more money for presents = no credit card purchases for Christmas. Can I get a hallelujah and Amen?

Going on 6 yrs with the same gorgeous fakey tree, purchased for $150. Allergies. Real tree = trip to emergency room and expensive prescription. Only problem with fake tree, it use to be pre-lit. Then the lights died. Lord Baby Jesus, does it ever suck to re-string a tree!

Farty’s had the same fake tree for five years, no frikkin’ needles to hoover up, yay!
We got a previously unheard of to us, variety this year- Nordberg- looks like a Noble, only with less space between the branches and the needles on the tops of the boughs are a silvery color- so pretty! Here in Oregon, wherer the trees are plentiful- only paid $5 per foot plus $2 to have it bound up with twine- sooo worth it- plus the kids think it is so cool the way the tree opens up like an umbrella when you cut the twine off! (I do too!)
I love that I can WALK across the street and cut down my tree. They will even carry it home for me and I get the “love your neighbor” discount! No strapping it to the car top for me!
‘Round here a 6′ Noble fir is going for $70 at the little local places, a 7-8 footer is $91. I ended up at Lowe’s and got a beautiful 8 footer for $64. Well worth it, as we have so many ornaments we need a place to hang them.
We always get the Frasier Firs. This year, at 8′ Frasier was $34.95 @ Lowe’s. Not as colorful as a neighborhood tree stand, but much more economical.
