Artisan rolls, dress shirts, and olive oil — these are just a few of the items that filled Bossy’s BJ’s Wholesale Club shopping cart over the Memorial Day weekend.
Bossy has written before about the benefits of wholesale club shopping, where benefits equal Bossy isn’t sure if there are benefits or not, but they sell her addiction in a jar the size of a fishbowl, for cheap.
For the next eight days, Bossy’s daughter has performances in The Sound of Music, and many friends and family will be attending the show and then coming over to drink and eat at Bossy’s house, although not necessarily in that order.
BJ’s, with its bulk packaging of items such as limes and pork tenderloins and baby new potatoes proved a perfect fit for Bossy’s holiday weekend store list, even if it is still terribly disconcerting to purchase tube socks and goat cheese under the same roof.
we don’t have bj’s where i live…we do have sam’s club, and i do have a membership to that…there is a costco about an hour north of here, but that is just TOO far to drive, and in my opinion sam’s and costco is about the same…we drink aquafina bottled water…i can get it at sam’s for $2 less, and 16 bottles more than the closest grocery store…the membership (a whole $40 a year) pays for itself RIGHT THERE, especially as we get water at least every other week, and in the hot summer months, EVERY week…not to mention all the super size frozen goods and dairy goods (like yogurt tubes, cheese, pizza rolls, and corn dogs to name a few), huge containers of peanut butter (my kids LIVE on peanut butter), and big reuseable containers of animal crackers….i really think it is a MUST HAVE for every family….
I know I have bad night vision, and my day vision isn’t much better, but are those baby food jars at the bottom of Bossy’s shopping cart?
It is a little disconcerting, but I could get past it as long as the tube socks don’t smell like goat cheese. (Or is it the other way around?)
Nope, I disagree. It’s not disconcerting AT ALL. It’s mandatory. And affordable–so to speak. Oh, AND A WORKOUT! Strength training to be specific, IF you purchase enough–as if you wouldn’t. (No personal jab. We ALL are subject to over-purchase at BJ’s. By the way, socks are JUST as neccessary as olives, Missy.) And my local BJ’s sells alcohol…for cheap $$$, mind you! Oh Lordy, I love the Seaglass Sauvignon Blanc & Ravenswood Zinfindel!!! So JK says, Go Bossy! Go Bossy’s Brigitta. Enjoy the shows. Cherish the get togethers and…break a leg!
Pork Tenderloin is my default for feeding hordes. I hope you’re using fresh rosemary with those fingerling potatoes.
Grandma J: not quite baby food jars. In fact, they are pimento-stuffed olives, for the inevitable martinis.
Our daughter gave me a membership to Sam’s and last year my husband felt left out and bought a Costco card. I’ve calculated how much we would have to spend to save a lot at these stores, but I love the bulk size for when we have guests coming and you know…a whole bunch of bananas is like $1.50 and that’s good enough for me.
It warms my heart to know that Bossy cares enough to remind me that even though she loves her babies, she no longer has to feed them baby food.
Now if Bossy can remember that those pimento-stuffed olives are for the martinis and not finger food, the bash should be a smash!
Who needs cocaine when there’s COSTCO?
It’s difficult to describe the high one gets from walking into this Super Store on a Saturday morning and finding that NOT ONLY are there Tiramisu samples the size of a baby kitten, but also cheesecake, smoked salmon, mushroom ravioli AND dark chocolate truffles. Whole ones.
Oh, and tube socks.
I love BJ’s too. I actually have a trip planned there tomorrow. In the meantime, I got my most recent credit card statement:

yes, but… isn’t it also nice to not have to drive to one store for your vitamins and ANOTHER for your salami and yet ANOTHER for your summer swimsuit and STILL another for your liquor?
I love one stop shopping. Saves time.

See, now, I live alone. So there is very little that I need to buy in bulk. Except, you know. Vodka and the like…
We just got a Costco membership yesterday. I haven’t tried mine out yet so I have no idea what the inside of a Costco looks like yet. Time will tell that’s for sure.
