The Daily Poverty Post

Welcome to Bossy’s Poverty Party, an online support group for reining in spending, getting your finances in order, and climbing out of debt. Everyone basically knows what steps to take, but it is nearly impossible to climb that mountain alone.

So every day nearly every day, Bossy will use this space to report her spending and missteps, along with cheap recipes, savings tips, and suggested tricks and goals.

Bossy has become obsessed with this online radio station, Eclectic 24. Bossy never really got into the whole streaming music thing before, but sister mercy, what a convenience if you can find a station you love — and do the young people still call it a station?

In the case of Eclectic 24, the name says it all — they broadcast a great range within the general category of Alternative, from classic tunes to jazz to fresh-off-the-press releases — and do the young people still have presses?

But the best part about Eclectic 24 is it’s free. Bossy tends to listen to music through her headphones while she works, and cooks, and jogs, and breathes, so Bossy’s biggest challenge is not growing too weary of the songs in her own library. Streaming Eclectic 24 solves this problem.

So why is this post here in the Poverty Party section? you may be asking yourself. Because Bossy falls in love with a few songs every day, and then downloads those songs for $0.99 a piece, and a few times $0.99 equals $2.97 times seven days a week equals $20.79 times five weeks a month equals Step away from those headphones, Bossy.

   I love the KCRW and NPR apps on my iTouch.

   Rhapsody might be just the thing for you. It has a terrific library including the majority of the music you can hear on Eclectic 24. Subscription plans are $12.99 – $14.99 for unlimited music. Sooo worth it. Seriously. I don’t know what I’d do with out Rhapsody. If something like “Seasons in the Sun” or the new Ruby Suns album pops in my head I can hear it. Immediately. Wish I had this when I was a teenager.

   I find the “wish list” feature to be a good cooling off place for me. That way I don’t lose the songs I love but I don’t have to pay for them until I’m ready. Though Rhapsody is sounding very tempting….

   I use Pandora on my computer and it also streams through the Roku to the TV. In terms of bizarre paths I got the tip from Megan McCain’s blog. I know, a Republican.OMG ! Since we share the same presidential boyfriend I couldn’t be more surprised either.

   This is a fabulous thing! This iTunes bills were killing me. I have grave misgivings about how easy it is to “one-click” my way to perfect happiness — and endless debt — on iTunes and Amazon.

   you could listen to my station, which pretty much is free, unless you want to make a donation towards bandwidth. but you would also need to be into classical music and/or opera.
