   This is kind of in the department of my soapbox. When all these box stores realize that the discounts they were receiving were at the cost of the suppliers (peronsally, I’m worried about publishers selling to chain bookstores) the whole system is going to start to collapse much like the shoddily built houses made out of cheap plywood. Or something.

    We’ve always found that the cheapest way to upgrade our abode is to let the neighbors “contribute” one brick at a time. They don’t want a porch with one brick missing, after all, so we’ve managed to save up almost enough for an in-ground jacuzzi.
